Ignea Sagitta is a professional Toy and Miniature Poodle kennel with an ENCI affix, at Cerreto di Sorano in the Tuscan Maremma. Twenty years ago, one meeting changed the way we look at dogs. Over time our experiences have changed, our knowledge has grown and our way of working has taken shape, without losing that first way of seeing that began with Paprica.
the beginning
At first it was her beauty that struck us, her bright eyes, the way she carried herself. Then we began to notice other things: how she read what was happening around her, how quickly she learned, how she recognised our moods and how she communicated through the smallest of signals.
With her first litter we saw at close hand how much the earliest weeks matter in building confidence, communication and the ability to face the world.
Paprica was the beginning of a path of study and understanding that, over the years, has led us to know the Poodle more deeply: its character, its aptitudes, its stages of development and the value of early experience. Our selection work grows out of that knowledge.
a journey that continues
Twenty years on, every litter adds experience to work that has taken shape over time.
There have been results, awards, new families and new stories. Above all, our knowledge of the breed has grown, along with our awareness of the responsibility that breeding and selecting it carries. Today we are a recognised professional kennel: time has given us experience, method and a more precise understanding of the dogs we work with.
Every birth, though, takes us back to Paprica and to that first, different way of looking at the Poodle.
Forty hectares of meadow, olive grove, arable land and woodland. Three thousand square metres of it are given over to the dogs, divided according to what is needed at different points in the day. The spaces are part of how they are formed.

These are the criteria that guide our daily decisions, from choosing breeding dogs to the moment of placement.
Responsibility
Every choice takes into account ENCI-FCI standards and the responsibility we feel towards our dogs.
From selecting breeding dogs to raising the puppies, we work in line with the regulations and with the experience gathered over the years.
Care
Every puppy grows at its own pace.
We know those rhythms and accompany each stage with respect.
Territory
The Maremma is not a backdrop. It is part of the method.
Meadows, woodland, seasons and natural rhythms are part of our dogs’ daily experience.
Ongoing support
Placement does not end our relationship with a family.
We stay present over time, for a question, a doubt, a conversation, or simply to share a moment of a dog’s growth.
Being a professional kennel means making care and selection a daily commitment: knowledge of the breed, attention to health, respect for the standard and responsibility towards every dog and the family that will welcome it.

the meeting
With each placement we hand a family the result of a journey that began on the first day of life.
We get to know the family: where they live, what their rhythms are, how much time they will be able to give the puppy and what place it will have in their daily life. The match starts here, weighing the puppy’s characteristics together with the life ahead of it.
Smells, spaces, people and rhythms all change. We support every family with guidance on routine, on how long settling in takes and on handling those first days.
The day of the handover does not break the relationship. The photographs, the messages, the questions and the story of a puppy growing up all continue. We are still there when we are needed.

Every puppy born here is the result of choices that begin long before a litter.
We come to know our dogs over time: their character, their aptitudes, their structure, their movement and the way they handle different situations. Our breeding decisions are built on that knowledge, with the aim of preserving the traits we consider distinctive of the Poodle.
It is one of the fundamental criteria, and it is above all something you come to know over time.
We look for balance between structure, movement and temperament. Beauty alone is not enough, just as a good character needs to be supported by a sound, functional structure.
Before mating, the required checks are carried out on the breeding dogs, including those for eye conditions and patellar luxation, according to the available health documentation.
We deposit each puppy’s DNA and copies of the tests go with the paperwork. Prevention does not remove every risk, but it lets breeding decisions rest on concrete information.
ENCI pedigree.
Traceable ancestry is an essential condition of our work. The pedigree documents a dog’s genealogical history and its place in a recognised line.
Respect for the standard is the basis of breed selection.
A correct structure supports movement, functionality and the dog’s overall balance.
