At the heart of a breeding programme, every birth holds a promise: to cherish the present while helping shape the breed’s future. In the first months, we face a delicate decision: which puppies may continue our breeding programme.

Two sisters, one destiny: Clover and Harper shape Unicum’s future

At the heart of our breeding programme, where every birth represents a promise for the breed’s future, deciding which puppies will contribute to future bloodlines is our most delicate task.

Today, as we watch Clover and Harper run and chase each other across the main meadow, it is clear that these two remarkable sisters already have a path ahead: they are staying with us as future dams in our breeding programme.

What won us over from the very beginning, far beyond their evident beauty, was their exuberant nature and innate charm, which fill our whole home with life. Clover and Harper are bundles of joy and personality, able to endear themselves to anyone with a single glance. Keeping them both is not merely a strategic choice, but a decision guided by the immense value of their temperaments.

Harper e Clover

Remarkable Emotional Stability

The first important reason lies in their remarkable emotional stability and playful nature. Clover is a true force of nature: lively, enterprising and endlessly curious. She greets every new experience with disarming confidence and a touch of amusing boldness—an important quality in a future dam, who may pass this fearlessness and joy for life on to her puppies. Harper, meanwhile, is sweetness with a playful spirit: with her funny ways and the Poodle’s characteristic expressiveness, she shows a gentle nature and a constant desire to work with people that leave us speechless.

Promising Conformation

In terms of conformation, this wonderful blend of temperaments is matched by remarkable bone structure and an exceptionally deep, warm and even red colour.

Clover has a proud gait, with well-balanced hind angulation and a firm topline that support the breed’s characteristic springy, proud and light movement. Harper has a finely shaped, well-proportioned head, expressive eyes and a broad, deep chest, reflecting soundness and genetic health. Keeping both sisters allows us to preserve more of a litter with strong qualities in both appearance and temperament, including the texture and rich pigmentation of their beautiful red coats.

Choosing a puppy for the future is not simply about deciding who will stay: it means taking responsibility for what comes next

Their health also supports our decision: preventive genetic testing for conditions commonly found in Poodles, together with pedigree research, confirms the quality of the line and the absence of known hereditary defects. Choosing two such well-balanced, cheerful sisters also allows us to plan varied future pairings. By selecting different sires for Clover and Harper, we can explore and nurture the many qualities within their genetics.

As the sun begins to set, bringing out the coppery tones in their curly coats, Clover and Harper come back towards us, wagging their tails happily and giving their characteristic joyful little hops. The decision is made. These two lovely sisters are not only promising in appearance, but also the sound, healthy and playful foundations on which we are building Unicum’s future.
